Ram is prioritizing its extended-range electric Ram 1500 Ramcharger over the fully electric Ram 1500 REV launch due to consumer demand, competitive pressures, and potential EV market slowdown concerns.
Stellantis has announced a strategic shift in the marketing of its Ram products. Instead of launching the all-electric Ram 1500 REV first, the company will introduce the Ram 1500 Ram charger extended-range electric version. The Ram 1500 REV was anticipated in the first half of 2025, followed by the Ram 1500 Ram charger, which utilizes the automaker's 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine.
This change in order is driven by three key factors: strong consumer interest in the Ramcharger, which offers an estimated 250 km electric range before engaging the V6 engine for a total combined range of 1,110 km; technological competition in the electrified pickup segment; and concerns about a potential slowdown in demand for all-electric vehicles. The Ramcharger will be available for order for the 2025 model year, with the all-electric Ram 1500 REV following in 2026. The Ramcharger will be equipped with a 92 kWh battery and a 130 kW onboard generator, coupled with a two-motor transmission system (250 kW front and 238 kW rear) for a combined power output of 663 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. It boasts a towing capacity of 14,400 lbs and a payload capacity of 2,625 lbs, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.4 seconds. The model will also feature bidirectional charging capabilities, enabling it to power other electric vehicles or homes
