This low is not expected to become a depression or storm.Sign up for the Morning Brief email newsletterA wet start to the Memorial Day weekend is ahead for parts of the Southeast coast due to a low-pressure system that is not expected to become a depression or storm.
Furthermore, wind shear - the change of wind speed and/or direction with height - is expected to remain somewhat strong along the East Coast over this low. Strong wind shear is usually hostile to systems trying to become tropical cyclones and is typical for this time of year. Some showers may linger in parts of the Southeast, including the Appalachians Sunday and Memorial Day.
These systems often come from left-behind disturbances from the jet stream but can come from elsewhere. It then derives some of its energy from warmer ocean water, like a tropical storm, but also some energy from the lingering temperature contrast that originally spawned it as an extratropical storm.
