If widespread strikes, expensive tickets and unreliable service weren't bad enough, rail passengers will be forced to endure the largest hike in fare prices for more than a decade.

‘Just another nail in the coffin’ amid thecrisis – this is how some people in England and Wales have described the largest hike in rail prices for more than a decade.

Though the government stressed this year’s increase is ‘well below inflation and delayed’, Labour described it as ‘savage’ and ‘a sick joke’. ‘Year-on-year rail fares have gone up, the commuters generally speaking have had to grin and bear it and the government has got away with making rail fares more and more expensive,’ he added.

This is the highest fare increase since 2012, when prices rose by 6%, but people often complain about ‘not getting value for money’.
