Rafael Nadal has been handed a daunting first-round match against Alexander Zverev in what could be his last appearance at the French Open
Fourteen-time champion is unseeded at Roland Garrosin a heavyweight first-round contest at the French Open ahead of what may be his final appearance at Roland Garros, a tournament he has won a record 14 times.
While Zverev is not required to attend the trial, and in Rome he said that he will not, the judge could theoretically summon him to appear there if he is given one week’s notice. Zverev’s trial is scheduled to take place on two dates during the, plus 7 June, and then two dates during Wimbledon; 5 and 12 July. Eight dates in total are currently scheduled.
But the results have been mixed. After making positive progress in Madrid, where Nadal reached the fourth round, he was far from decent form in Rome, whereby Hubert Hurkacz. Nadal has indicated that this is likely his final season on the tour due to his body, but it is also increasingly clear that he would love to continue competing.
Wawrinka, 39, will also be Murray’s third consecutive opponent at Roland Garros after he lost to the 2015 champion in the 2017 semi-final. The winner will face the British No 1, Cameron Norrie, the 32nd seed, in the second round.Novak Djokovic, the top seed and defending champion, will begin his tournament against Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
