West Lindsey District Council takes on the Home Office over RAF Scampton asylum centre plans. Is this a 12-month project or an indefinite assignment? Stay tuned for the judicial review verdict!

West Lindsey District Council has refuted Home Office claims that it only plans to use RAF Scampton as an asylum centre for a year.

The Secretary of State has resorted to emergency planning powers due to increasing numbers of asylum seekers. However, he noted that a special development order could be obtained to extend the use of the site. This potential extension led some barristers to suggest that this could turn into an"indefinite project".

Without proper accommodations, many risk homelessness and therefore illness, injury, or even death, Mr. Brown said. Following the proceedings, Director for Planning and Regeneration Sally Gringrod-Smith commented: "We’ve always been clear that if the intention is to use the site longer than 12 months, then there is a duty to assess the impact."
