'Rackspace growing up': First look at San Antonio cloud computing firm's new digs
After 14 years in a building that came to be known as the Castle, Rackspace Technology Inc. moved into new headquarters last month, pushed by a changing business landscape and the pandemic to evolve — and downsize. The cloud computing firm’s so-called New Castle — a nod to the moniker the local tech community gave its former home — is in an office building at RidgeWood Plaza, a business park just north of Loop 1604 along U.S. 281 near Stone Oak .
Rackspace is leaving longtime Windcrest headquarters for new office space in North San Antonio The move was announced in October as the struggling company — one of San Antonio’s few tech success stories — was reorganizing under new leadership and adjusting to the realities of hybrid and remote work.
New owner closes deal for former Rackspace HQ; will turn the Windcrest property into industrial park And while many businesses are pushing workers to return to the office, Rackspace has employed a different approach. It allows each team of Rackers, as its employees are called, to set its own policies. “They have the autonomy to make the decision of how many days in office,” Sult said. “It’s mostly just for collaboration.
Rackspace’s reputation taking a hit as response to ransomware attack falls short of customers’ hopes Nearby, an alcove with several vintage video games recalls an ’80’s-era arcade. There’s foosball, shuffleboard and pingpong tables awaiting software engineers or customer service agents looking to blow off steam. “We definitely kept the fun stuff,” Silva said. There’s also a fitness facility with Pelotons, treadmills, weight machines and free weights.
‘The end’: Rackspace founder says it’s ‘on trajectory of death.’ Other former Rackers not so sure. They’ve also dedicated the company’s new security operations center to Marc Nourani, the former director of global incident management who died in December. Sult said she’s seeing more and more Rackers coming into the new offices as the dust of the move settles.
