Rachel Zegler reveals that she originally turned down her leading role in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is based on the Suzanne Collins novel of the same name and follows a young President Snow as he falls for a young District 12 woman during the 10th Hunger Games – over six decades before meeting Katniss Everdeen. Zegler plays the lead role of Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games prequel, the tribute who becomes the mentee under Coriolanus.
Despite reports that she had been “wanting it so badly,” Zegler ultimately turned it down after a three-hour meeting with the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes director revealed that the filming would take place in Poland and Germany. Already feeling homesick while living in London, Zegler did not feel ready to take this step in her life.
And I regretted it the second I said it. I had another project lined up that fell through that got pushed into 2023 and I just kind of put my name back into the mix and got it, and I feel really bad for any of the girls… because I put my name back in and they were just like ‘yup, OK, cool, we’ll do it.
