While Greenwood had charges dropped him in Februaryhas been delayed while the club received criticism for asking the women's team what they thought on the situation.
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was also internally suspended by the club. However, charges were dropped in February this year when The Crown Prosecution Service said there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation from the investigation., indicating that if Greenwood was not such a valuable player, United would not be bothering so much about a potential return.
