From an electric hatchback to a rugged SUV, the list of discontinued cars for the 2022 model year is nothing if not diverse. Each vehicle was dropped from lineups for a specific reason, though slow sales ultimately spelled their demise.1. Toyota Land Cruiser The rugged Land Cruiser name has been a part of Toyota’s TM, +0.05% lineup in the U.S. since 1958, but 2022 marks the end of the bumpy road here. The Land Cruiser has been but a rounding error on Toyota sales charts in the U.S.
3. Volvo V90 Volvo VLVLY, -1.10% may be known for its wagons, but American consumers haven’t bought them in droves since the 1990s. The big V90, which sits alongside the high-riding XC90 as the automaker’s flagship model, remains popular overseas but was essentially a special-order item for U.S. showrooms.
Mazda MZDAY, -0.22% briefly sold the two alongside one another, but ultimately , the fresher design sticks around. The Golf isn’t totally disappearing from the U.S., however. The sporty GTI and Golf R versions stick around with a new design that’s more tech-heavy than ever. Still, this often-discounted 4-door makes a great choice for drivers who don’t need a raised seating position and a big cargo area.
