Book challenges and attempts to ban books continues in Canada
The week has been observed since 1984 to challenge censorship and to raise issues surrounding attempts at censorship.
Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication is one of the four fundamental freedoms. However, there are attempts to limit materials that can be accessed in this country and around the world.
