‘Quite a messy spell’: Piastri’s ‘scrappy’ Monza unpacked ahead of Aussie’s tough run home

The first came after the pit stops, when he was undercut by teammate Lando Norris, who had been running behind him in eighth. Exiting pit lane and seeing Norris marginally ahead of him, Piastri attempted to run his teammate side by side into the chicane to take back the place. Instead he ran slightly deep and made wheel-to-wheel contact with the sister car in anPiastri assumed eighth place, but he was later crashed into by Lewis Hamilton as the Briton charged through the field on an alternative strategy.
“This is one of those events that every rookie, every driver, goes through,” he said. “You just have an off-race. “With the underlying pace being there and at least one of the incidents not being his fault certainly — and maybe there were mitigating circumstances for his collision with Lando Norris — I’m inclined not to think about it in such negative terms,” he said.
“In a sense it’s almost going to be a little bit of a step backwards,” Lamonato said. “He can’t rely so much on the experience he’s accumulated in the junior categories for most of the tracks coming up, which will be interesting to observe.”co-host Ian Parkes said it would be important for Piastri to strike back quickly, arguing that the Italian Grand Prix was the latest in a string of sketchy races rather than a one-off weekend.
