Queer time is part of Queer Theory Watching Heartstopper was bitter-sweet for Joe Thorpe, who, at the age of 32, hasn’t had a relationship yet. ‘That is one time where I’ve watched something where I’ve thought, “how sad that I didn’t have that experience when I was that age,” Joe, who came out aged 19, tells Metro.co.uk. ‘I did feel like I’d missed out on something.
‘I think we all, especially in your teenage years, want a boyfriend and do the cute stuff you see going on around you,’ he says. ‘I watch things like Heartstopper and I’m like, “to be able to have that experience when I was a teenager would have been amazing,” but it wasn’t possible.’ He has since had a relationship with a man who was 10 years older than him when he was 25.
