Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli has doubled down on his stance to withdraw his support for the state's path to treaty, following theQueensland delivered the strongest No vote in the country in the referendum last week, with 69 per cent of residents voting against the proposed constitutional change. for the Palaszczuk government’s Path to Treaty Bill over fears of"further division" given the outcome of the Voice.

Speaking to Sky News Australia on Thursday, Mr Crisafulli said he was"not going to make the same mistake as the Prime Minister" given how Queenslanders voted at the polls last week. "The Prime Minister was warned on multiple occasions in the last six months that if he continued down this path this is what would occur."

The national No vote was sitting at 60 per cent after ballot papers were tallied last Saturday, while the Yes vote was roughly 39 per cent. The first step in Queensland's path to treaty will include a three-year truth-telling and healing inquiry, which will also investigate the impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the state.

Ms Palaszczuk said treaties being negotiated with First Nations people were"a long way off, and that would require bipartisan support", as reported by the Courier Mail.
