After 40 minutes waiting on the COVID hotline for instructions, Ms Lukin said she gave up and decided to take a rapid antigen test. Dr Harrison said the pathology clinics had staff working overnight and across Christmas Day to catch up, while priority had to be given to testing aged care residents and healthcare workers who were close contacts of infected people.
"So it's a sprint that has turned into a marathon, and we've had surges before but this is our largest surge, and it's gone for longer as well."
