Domestic violence legislation has been introduced in Queensland parliament after the killings of Hannah Clarke and her three children.
The 31-year-old's estranged husband doused her in petrol and set fire to her and her children, Aaliyah, Laianah, and Trey, in February 2020. A national push was prompted to outlaw coercive control, a pattern of abuse recognised as a"red flag for murder". Signs of coercive control can include controlling a victim’s money, appearance, movement and contact with family.
New laws will make coercive control a separate offence carrying a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
