New data has revealed Queensland has taken home the title of the nation's top holiday destination, with a record 11.3 million Aussies converging on the Sunshine State over the past year.
Recent figures from Tourism Research Australia show a record-breaking 11.3 million Aussies swarmed the Sunshine State in the year to March 2023, an increase of 24 per cent.
About 2.46 million tourists converged on Brisbane, 2.48 million on the Sunshine Coast and 460,000 on the Fraser Coast. The money spent on conventions and conferences for business travel has increased by 12.7 per cent, resulting in $4.5 million for the economy, compared to 2019 pre-COVID data. In a statement, Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the results showed the full recovery of the state's domestic visitor economy post pandemic.
“We’re also seeing encouraging signs of international recovery as the Palaszczuk Government’s $200 million aviation war chest continues to reconnect and promote Queensland to the world.”
