Over the course of 2022, celebrations will be held throughout the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and around the world to celebrate the first British monarch to have served seventy years after first taking the throne in 1952 at just 25 years old. Queen Elizabeth and various family members will also travel around the country to participate in various events marking this historic occasion, which will all culminate with June’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend, set to take place in exactly one year.
The palace will hold a number of public events, community activities, and national moments of reflection in the Queen’s honor during the four day holiday. To kick off the royal festivities, 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses, and 400 musicians will gather for. That will be followed by the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas territories, and, for the first time ever, in the capital cities of Commonwealth countries.
On the final day of the Jubilee activities, communities are encouraged to host “The Big Lunch,” an idea that began in 2009 to encourage people to share friendship, food, and fun with their neighbors while celebrating the monarch.
