Her death was announced at around 1:30 p.m. ET, which is 6:30 p.m. U.K. time; however, it appears the monarch passed away hours earlier, and the news was made public only once the entire family was aware. According to the queen's death certificate, which was obtained byQueen Elizabeth died at 15:10 hours, or 3:10 p.m. U.K. time, on September 8 in Balmoral Castle.
In the document, the monarch's cause of death is listed as "old age," as she was 96 years old when she died surrounded by her family. Her marital status is listed as widowed, as her husband of more than 70 years, Prince Philip, died at age 99 just last year.The National Records of Scotland
