The queen's Alamo City visit was quick, but it left a lasting impression.

Dennis Dunleavy/San Antonio Express-NewsSix minutes at the Alamo, 12 minutes on the River Walk and a glimpse at the heritage of Texas were the highlights of Queen Elizabeth II’s whirlwind trip through San Antonio in May 1991.

An estimated 25,000 commoners lined up along the royal route to catch a glimpse of the monarch as she was whisked from one photo opportunity to another. “I don’t remember what the hell we were talking about,” Wolff said laughing, describing the prince as stiff and smug. “You could tell he was royalty.”

The queen reportedly was most impressed by the display honoring the dozens of fallen Alamo defenders from the United Kingdom and Europe.
