King Charles III won't be the only royal getting crowned at his coronation. Next May, his wife, Queen Camilla, will become the first queen consort to be crowned in Westminster Abbey in nearly 100 years.During the regal ceremony held at London's Westminster Abbey, the king and queen will be crowned together.
The last queen consort to be crowned in Westminster Abbey was Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother during the coronation of King George VI in 1937. At the time, she was bequeathed a purple velvet crown with ermine trim and 2,800 diamonds, per theunderstands that the king's coronation will retain the same core religious elements present in previous coronations, but that the ceremony will draw back on the opulence in order to reflect "the spirit of our times.
A spokesperson said, "The coronation will reflect the monarch's role today and look toward the future, while being rooted in long-standing traditions and pageantry."BAZAAR.com that there has been an emphasis on keeping costs down and appearing "less fussy." King Charles will have less outfit changes than previous monarchs, for instance, and the length of the ceremony will be reduced to just one hour.
