Qualcomm is reportedly working on a new chipset called Snapdragon 8s Elite, designed for sub-flagship smartphones. The report details the chipset's core configuration and suggests brands like iQOO and Redmi might be among the first to utilize it.
Qualcomm is reportedly working on a new chipset called Snapdragon 8s Elite, according to a recent report from China. This new chipset will follow the naming convention of previous Snapdragon series, such as the Snapdragon 6, 7, and 8 lines. The Snapdragon 8s Elite is expected to feature a prime Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.21 GHz, three performance Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 3.01 GHz, two efficiency Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.80 GHz, and another two efficiency cores clocked at 2.02 GHz.
In comparison, the current flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, boasts two prime Oryon cores clocked at 4.32 GHz and six 3.53 GHz performance cores, without any efficiency cores. The lower clock speeds of the Snapdragon 8s Elite's cores suggest that this upcoming SoC is intended for sub-flagship smartphones rather than top-tier devices. The report also hints at brands like iQOO and Redmi being among the first to release phones powered by this unannounced Snapdragon 8s Elite chipset. However, the leaker doesn't reveal any details about the potential launch date of the Snapdragon 8s Elite. Considering that Qualcomm typically releases its chipsets in March, the Snapdragon 8s Elite might arrive in two months if the company adheres to its previous release schedules.
