San Diego wireless communications leader Qualcomm today is laying claim to the world’s first commercially available Wi-Fi 7 solution for a range of devices, from laptops and smartphones to tablets and AR/VR mixed reality headsets and more.
Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Bluetooth Audio SolutionAs is typically the case with many Wi-Fi radio solutions, Qualcomm bundles advanced Bluetooth technology in with its new FastConnect 7800 connectivity platform and specifically will support Bluetooth LE Audio, Bluetooth 5.3, next-gen Intelligent Dual Bluetooth connectivity and the company’s Snapdragon Sound features.
Qualcomm ecosystem OEM partners are of course coming out in force in support of these new FastConnect 7800 and Snapdragon S0und technologies, with brands like Acer, ASUS, Honor, Oppo, Xiaomi, Tecent and Meta all committed to the new platform for future products. And so, while the concept of the metaverse is perhaps getting a bit worn-out these days, and Qualcomm didn’t specifically lean into it, you can think of these, and really almost everything the company does, as sort of the “plumbing” for the metaverse and our everyday digitally connected lives. To enable this new emerging frontier of interactivity, collaboration and connectivity, we’ll need copious low-latency bandwidth with intelligent devices that know how to manage it all.
Qualcomm’s FastConnect 7800 Wi-Fi 7 products are sampling now, with commercial availability in devices expected in the first half of 2022.
