QC gov’t inaugurates rehabilitated shelter for victims of gender-based abuse

The city government said that the renovated three-storey protection center in the city has two dormitories with 20 beds, an activity area, dining area and a conference room. Bahay Kanlungan was first opened in November 2020.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led on Saturday, Dec. 17, the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated “Bahay Kanlungan” which serves as a temporary shelter for women, children and members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual commuity who were victims of gender-based violence and abuse.

It added that the center is a one stop shop that provides medical and legal assistance, and counseling to the victims. Present at the ceremony were Councilors Marra Suntay, Ellie Juan, Raquel Malangen, Nanette Daza, District 4 Action Officer Al Flores, and Gender and Development Head and Protection Center Officer-in-charge Janete Oviedo.

“Walang lugar ang karahasan sa lungsod Quezon, kaya naman para sa mga nais magreport ng kaso ukol dito, maaring idulog sa Quezon City Protection Center ,” the city government said.
