Wake Forest transfer QB Sam Hartman has committed to Notre Dame, he announced on Thursday. The four-year starter for the Demon Deacons ranks No. 2 in the ACC career record books with 12,967 passing yards.
Hartman gives Notre Dame its biggest recruiting win of the Marcus Freeman era: a proven quarterback who was in the Heisman Trophy discussion during the first half of the season.
Coupled with the MVP showing of Tyler Buchner in the Gator Bowl, Notre Dame will have the kind of depth at quarterback it has lacked in recent years, after entering 2022 with no one in the quarterback room with starting experience. That changes dramatically now for offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who has a full deck to work with at the position. Notre Dame could be a potential College Football Playoff contender with Hartman, who will face his old Wake Forest team on Oct. 28 of next season.
