PwC Australia has quietly appointed a former top-ranking Victorian public servant as a partner as the embattled consulting giant weathers a global crisis.
Mr Phemister is no stranger to Melbourne’s big four consultancies – the department shelled out almost $21 million on consulting services with the big firms in the 2022 financial year.
PwC led the spending marginally, securing just over $7 million in work from 22 contracts valued at just under $11 million. The department contracted rival firm KPMG for $9.5 million worth of work over 21 contracts, which came in at a lower cost of $7 million.EY secured 19 contracts valued at $7.6 million of which it performed $3.7 million worth of work, while Deloitte was contracted for $5.2 million across 20 contracts but performed $2.8 million worth of work.
The tax advice debacle has led to the firm’s former Australian chief executive, Tom Seymour, along with senior partners Pete Calleja and Sean Gregory, to step down from their respective leadership roles. Mr Seymour will leave the firm at the end of September.Amid the ructions, the firm has appointed former Telstra chief executive Ziggy Switkowski to lead a review into the leaks.
