Russia has launched its first major attack on Kyiv since pulling troops back from the capital. Loud explosions were heard overnight after Moscow retaliated to the sinking of the largest ship in its Black Sea Fleet.
It’s unclear which targets inside Kyiv were hit but it comes days after a Kremlin threat to target ‘decision-making centres’, comments interpreted as a direction threat againstThere were limited immediate reports of damage but large blasts were also reported in Kherson, Kharkiv and the town of Ivano-Frankivsk in the west.
Troops used in the failed assault on the capital are being patched up and prepared for redeployment in the Donbas ahead of an expected offensive. Ukraine’s claims of a successful missile strike can’t be verified but it would be the second ship it had sunk since the conflict began.
