Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at a summit celebrating 10 years of China’s Belt and Road initiative . The two leaders portrayed themselves as “dear” friends fighting for a “fairer, multipolar world.” Putin said they discussed “the situation in the Middle East” and “the situation that is developing on the Ukrainian track.
"The political mutual trust between the two countries is continuously deepening," Xi said, according to state media outlet Xinhua news agency. Meeting on the sidelines of a forum to celebrate 10 years of his flagship Belt and Road foreign policy initiative, Xi told Putin annual bilateral trade between their countries had reached a “historic high” of nearly $200bn.Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Wednesday laid out a vision for a revamped version of his signature “Belt and Road” investment initiative and promised continued economic support for nations that sign on to China’s remade world order.
