As petrol and diesel prices have soared in recent months, a South African tech tool can help drivers find the best deals on fuel to help mitigate the damage on their pockets.
At the start of September, the petrol price for 95 unleaded was hiked to R24.54 per litre in Gauteng following a R1.71 per litre increase for both 93 and 95 unleaded.
The myTank app, developed by South African Rob Gardner, can help consumers save as much as possible at the pump by identifying the cheapest stations to refill at in an area. The initial thought behind the app was to help diesel buyers identify the station in their area that offers the cheapest diesel price, but Gardner wanted to offer some functionality for petrol vehicle owners too, where the price is regulated.
The petrol stations that have agreed to be displayed on the platform self-report their price data onto the platform.
