The school was placed on lockdown for about an hour
since some students and staff were still there.
Deputies attempted to contact the man in the home, but he refused to speak and allegedly threatened them with a gun, the news release states. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was activated to execute search and arrest warrants, and negotiators tried for several hours to communicate with the man “to get him to surrender peacefully.”
“The man refused repeated verbal commands,” the news release states. “SWAT team deployed gas into the home, but the suspect still refused to comply. SWAT team members entered the home and the suspect leveled a gun in their direction.”Two deputies were placed on leave while the shooting is investigated by the 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
The deputies have not been identified, and the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office will identify the man at a later time.
