Gov. Shapiro, please work with our congressional leaders to increase transit funding.
With the recent election, many people are concerned about the country’s future. I am as well, but to support our country, we need to focus on pressing issues in our local community. And I want to focus on the state of transit in Pennsylvania.
As a lifelong resident of Delco, I’ve worked in many jobs both in and around Philadelphia. Having accessible, frequent, and safe transit has been essential for easing my commute both when I have and haven’t had a car. And public transit can be a lifesaver in unsafe situations or a hassle-free way to get back and forth from major events.
Since April 2024, SEPTA has been running at a deficit of $240 million in operations funding, and its reserves are currently running out. This may seem like a lot of money, but given the fact that SEPTA and other transit provide an essential service across multiple counties in Pennsylvania, Gov.
