Montgomery residents got a chance to ask the mayor questions directly.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed hosted a town hall meeting at Auburn University at Montgomery Tuesday evening.
The mayor gave an update on the city’s progress over the first half of 2024 and shared his goals for the remainder of the year. Additionally, Reed answered questions from those in attendance about the health and well-being of the city. Topics included public safety, economic growth and community development.
After the mayor gave his opening statement, public safety became the main topic for most residents living in fear.Reed addressed the issue of crime as an area that city officials aren’t satisfied with, saying they are looking into multiple strategies to reduce crime, including an initiative with people who were once at-risk youth.
The Montgomery Police Department was a subtopic of concern, as they remain understaffed. The mayor said they are working on increasing pay for those on staff by 15% with the use of money from empty positions, adding the city will figure out a way to sustain bonuses and fill positions simultaneously.Copyright 2024 WSFA.
