'This is unfortunately what is wrong with our once GREAT country! No longer respect the greats and being walked all over.'

Punters threatened to 'boycott' a pub after its mural of Captain Sir Tom Moore was painted over - just weeks after his daughter's controversial spa was torn down. Artist Rachel List painted the iconic veteran walking with his zimmer frame onto an exterior wall at The Malt Shovel in Pontefract, North Yorkshire, in April 2020.

The 33-year-old, who created the mural for free to boost locals' morale, understands why people wanted it to remain but says it was never intended to be permanent. Rachel, from Pontefract, Yorkshire, said: "From day one that wall wasn't in very good condition so it's been four years now and the mural has been peeling off.

Captain Tom Moore raised £38 million for charity during the Covid pandemic but since his death in 2021 his family have been courted controversy over The Captain Tom Moore Foundation. Rachel, who says she's proud of the work, made headlines for painting angel murals in April 2020 and that's when the Malt Shovel donated their wall for a Captain Tom tribute.
