'Our ability to support victims and investigate crime is being stretched to breaking point'
Annual statistics from the PSNI show that crime figures are down for Northern Ireland, but a senior officer has warned that trend will not continue if budget pressures for the force are not addressed.
Most types of crimes saw a drop in numbers during that time, including murders, which almost halved to 13 in the last year from 24 in the previous year. Other crimes such as burglaries and criminal damage also saw reductions, while drug trafficking offences and shoplifting saw rises. DCC Todd said: “These very welcome reductions should come as reassurance to the public that Northern Ireland remains one of the safest parts of the UK to live, work and do business.
