'With just one punch, lives can be destroyed and families' lives ruined forever'

Police have asked parents to ensure their children are not "engaging in organised fighting" following a report that a 12-year-old girl was assaulted in Coleraine.

It comes as Causeway Coast and Glens officers urged parents and guardians to stay in frequent contact with their kids so they know their whereabouts through out the day to make sure they are not fighting - especially during the half-term Halloween break. "We are giving fair and due warning that anyone caught engaging in this reckless activity will face the consequences of their actions, and could run the risk of ending up with a criminal record, which will impact on the rest of their lives.

"Please closely monitor the social media apps your children are using and talk to them at home about the dangers of getting caught up in this sort of dangerous behaviour.
