Qatar Sports Investments , who own PSG, are said to be exploring the possibility of purchasing a team in the Premier League as they look to expand their portfolio in Europe, having acquired the French giants back in 2011.Middle Eastern investment firms have invested handsomely in the English top flight over the past year, with the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United in 2021 understood to have been worth a whopping $409 million .
QSI now seem keen to follow a similar path to their Gulf neighbours as they are in talks with several EPL clubs, most notably Tottenham Hotspur., PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi met with Spurs executive chairman Daniel Levy at a hotel in London in what is said to be an exploratory meeting last week.
With the firm already owning a stake in Portuguese outfit Braga, it is claimed they are planning a multi-club investment in 2023, a model similar to that of the City Football Group, which owns various teams across the globe, including Manchester City, Troyes in France, Girona in Spain, and Melbourne City in Australia.
Manchester United and Liverpool both recently confirmed that they are looking at the possibility of getting new investors, but according to the report, QSI have not had any talks with those two sides.One potential issue could arise in that UEFA regulations stipulate that no two teams or more participating in the same competition may be directly or indirectly controlled by the same entity.
