Dozens of protestors gathered outside the Anchorage offices of Alaska Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, expressing outrage over the Trump administration's decision to drastically cut funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The protestors voiced concerns about the potential impact on vital aid programs and the erosion of government transparency.

Dozens of chanting protestors waved signs outside the Anchorage offices of Alaska Senators Lisa Murkowski and Senator Dan Sullivan Wednesday.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Dozens of chanting protestors waved signs outside the Anchorage offices of Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan Wednesday, joining a nationwide protest over“You’ve got to help. You are in more of a position of power than we are. And we need help now,” Hilkka Bold, an Anchorage protestor, said.

The Trump administration and Elon Musk’s budget-slashing team have targeted federal programs, including dismantling the independent aid agency, known as the U.S. Agency for International Development or USAID, arguing spending has been wasteful or not aligned with a conservative agenda. A Trump administration order yanking almost all USAID employees off the job and out of the field has left staffers worldwide scrambling for answers — packing up households and pulling their children from school.“He’s done a great job. Look at all the fraud that he’s found in this USAID. It’s a disaster what the people ... radical left lunatics.”

Murkowski, who on Wednesday said government phone lines had been overwhelmed with concerned calls, responded to the protests in a statement: “Efficiency in government should be a goal for every administration, agency, and federal employee. But how we achieve it also matters,” Murkowski stated. “By circumventing proper channels and procedures, and creating the potential to compromise the sensitive data of Americans, we create a tremendous amount of unnecessary anxiety. That is wrong. Good governance is based on trust, not fear.
