A large group of protesters marched through downtown Seattle Saturday, calling for an end of federal immigration enforcement actions across the country. Big crowds were expected to hit the streets throughout western Washington, as demonstrations continued against ICE arrests and other actions that have resulted in clashes in Minnesota and other parts of the nation.
“Seattle Area Protest List.” That included a silent vigil for Alex Pretti from 4-8 p.m., at Harborview Park, next to Harborview Medical Center, and an “ICE Out For Good/Stop Funding Demonstration” at the Seattle downtown Federal Building, from 5-6 p.m.A vigil for people killed by ICE agents was also scheduled in Renton, at 7 p.m., at “The Landing,” at 900 N. 10Saturday’s protest came on the same day crowds in Minnesota demonstrated in front of Target stores over its stance on ICE immigration enforcement. Crowds gathered at stores and chanted slogans such as “We won’t shop here anymore! ‘Til Target kicks ICE out the door!” Target’s incoming CEO has joined 60 other business leaders calling for de-escalation, after Good and Pretti were fatally shot by immigration agents. Demonstrators want the company to publicly oppose ICE activity on its property and ban ICE agents from entering stores. Meantime, in Washington, DC, Sen. Patty Murray , on the floor of the Senate, spoke about her efforts to end the clashes that have led to violence and protests in Minnesota. On Friday, Murray thanked Republican members of the Senate for joining in support of a DHS funding bill that was separated from a stopgap measure to prevent a government shutdown. “It’s a good thing that at least some Republicans are finally listening to the American people who are outraged by what we’re all seeing,” said Sen. Murray, “and who are fed up with the insane lies we have heard from this administration. Now they need to join with us to finalize a serious deal that holds DHS accountable.” Murray says over the next few days, Democrats will focus on negotiations to put an end to the chaos in Minnesota.A large group of protesters marched through downtown Seattle Saturday, calling for an end of federal immigration enforcement actions across the country.DHS calls Seattle Mayor’s plan to limit city cooperation with ICE ‘legally illiterate’Skiers face challenges as Mt.
