Hundreds of people from across Central Texas gathered in Kyle to demand that ICE agents leave the city following reported operations in the area. Around 200 demonstrators lined the streets outside Kyle City Hall, calling for an end to ICE activities.
The protest, organized by Mano Amiga, was one of many in Central Texas since Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota. Kyle City Councilwoman Claudia Zapata emphasized the importance of community unity and support for immigrant neighbors. "It is so important that not only do we feel unified, but our immigrant neighbors also feel supported as well," she said. Protesters also urged the Hays County Sheriff to reject a 287 agreement, which would partner local law enforcement with ICE. Eric Martinez, Executive and Policy Director of Mano Amiga, said it's important that local law enforcement stands with the people.The peaceful demonstration lasted several hours, with participants remaining on the sidewalks. Amy Bellinger, a demonstrator from Southwest Austin, encouraged others to join the cause.
