Some demonstrators chanted “two-tier policing” as officers formed a protective ring around the mosque.Mounted police pushed back protesters, some of whom wore masks and ands were draped in England flags. The demonstration kicked off at Sunderland’s newly refurbished Keel Square, where protesters began throwing beer barrels and stones at police.

Disorder has also been seen in Liverpool tonight, after about 200 anti-racist protesters gathered outside Abdullah Quilliam Mosque to demonstrate against a far-right protest set to take place there.
