Tensions boiled over outside a Los Angeles-area school board meeting Tuesday when two groups of protesters came to blows ahead of the board’s vote on recognizing June as Pride month.
Three people were arrested after a brawl erupted between pro-LGBTQ demonstrators and another group of demonstrators, mostly parents, who want a say about when their children learn of LGBTQ issues in the classroom, according to KTLA television.
“While most of the protest was peaceful, a small group of individuals engaged in behavior deemed unsafe and a risk to public safety,” police said in a statement. The fracas caused the school board to delay its business, but the board went on to adopt the resolution declaring June as Pride Month for the fifth year in a row.
