Proteas can cause an upset and win first-ever World Cup, if...
Fast bowler Anrich Nortje's late withdrawal from the Proteas' squad to contest the 2023 Cricket World Cup has added to the lot of a country already rendered angsty by a history of misfortune at the tournament, but they still have enough by way of player resources to cause an upset and win their first ICC event ever.
This is the view of former Proteas performance analyst Prasanna Agoram, who feels that what South Africa will lack in wheels they can more than make up for in twirl. Agoram, who hails from India, but now works for the Johannesburg-based Lions, believes the Proteas should find a place in their starting XI for left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj and his wrist spin counterpart Tabraiz Shamsi.
"The one issue that the South African team needs to address is how to fit in the second spinner," he explained."If you ask me, there's no need for four fast bowlers on Indian wickets, where I don't see any reverse swing coming into play in October. There won't be much of a dew factor, so reverse swing is definitely not going to be in the picture.
