The capital murder trial of Jimmy Cuong Duc Tran, one of two co-defendants accused of killing Andres Salinas in 2019 in a drug-related robbery, began Tuesday.
Jimmy Coung Duc Tran and a codefendant were charged with killing Andres Salinas, 22, outside a Northeast Side shopping center in 2019, in what authorities believe was a drug deal that turned into a robbery.
Tran was 19 when he was arrested and charged, along with Sebastian Angel Espinar, in the death of Andres Salinas, 22, outside a Northeast Side shopping center in 2019, in what authorities believe was a drug deal that turned into a fatal robbery. Defense attorney Joe Hoelscher told the jury in his opening statement that Salinas' death was likely the result of a misdemeanor offense and not capital murder.
