Prosecutor: Homeless man killed in a gang-motivated act of revenge [Breaking]
The fatal stabbing of a homeless man in Barrio Logan last year was a gang-motivated act of revenge in the wake of another killing in Chicano Park, a prosecutor said Tuesday.
Mack’s assertion came at the start of a preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court for the men accused of murder in Reyes’ death. At the end of the hearing — which is set to continue Wednesday — Superior Court Judge Marian Gaston will determine whether the prosecution presented enough evidence to order the defendants — Irvin Torres, 21, Angel Olea, 22, and Andrew Juanillo, 24 — to stand trial.
San Diego police Detective Robert Hopper said people in the crowd were upset apparently because they thought an ambulance that showed up at the scene did not get there soon enough. Gudiel was taken to a hospital, where he died. As detectives investigated the homicide, a tense standoff between the crowd and officers at the scene stretched into the night.. Two bystanders found his body about 3 a.m. on a sidewalk on National Avenue near the intersection with Sigsbee Street.Investigators testified in court that they suspected a possible connection between the two stabbings.
