An 80-year-old independent and former Democrat expresses disappointment over Proposition 50's passage, criticizing its impact on the electorate, redistricting, and the principle of one person, one vote. The article also touches on other local news.

People stand in line to vote in the special election on Proposition 50 on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, in San Diego, CA. ): I am an 80-year-old independent and a former Democrat. The passage of Proposition 50 is unfortunate on many levels.

Most importantly, it demonstrates how uninformed our electorate is. This power grab and installed gerrymandering fix was a misguided attempt to make two wrongs a right. There is no way that redistricting is going back to an independent commission. It took decades of negotiating and compromise to enact a process that has now been dismantled. With the present partisan divide, neither party is going to give up this power when they have it, so one person, one vote is nixed.Feds: Miramar barbershop owner led San Diego-based laundering cell in $40 million elder fraud schemeChaotic effort to create Balboa Park parking fees creating doubts about doing the same at beaches, baysDylan Cease, Michael King get qualifying offers from PadresAztecs notes: Injury updates on Magoon Gwath and Reese Dixon-Waters; Latrell Davis talks redshirting
