This comes about one month after Veolia proposed a potentially high increase to customers' water and wastewater bills.In a release published by PUC on Thursday, the commission voted 5-0 on suspending the rate increase for "up to seven months" from the proposed date of the increase which would have been Apr. 16. Suspending a rate case is standard procedure for utility companies going before the PUC.
The release states that the case is being handled by the PUC's Office of Administrative Law where a final decision on the proposed increase is due by Nov. 16.Under the proposals filed with the PUC by Veolia, the average monthly bill for a residential water customer using 3,500 gallons of water per month would increase from $49.64 to $60.79 . For Veolia wastewater customers, the average monthly bill for a residential customer would increase from a flat rate of $56.20 to $77.00 .
PUC also says that the rate hikes would increase the company's total annual operating revenue for water services by about $15.5 million, a 26.4% increase. The proposed increase would also raise their total annual operating revenue for wastewater services by about $569,000 which would be a 34.8% increase.
