Developers submitted a preliminary application this month.
Developers unveiled their plan for the second phase of Los Gatos’ controversial North 40 development last week, which includes 437 housing units.
If the plan is approved, it would bring the total number of housing units from both phases of the North 40 development to more than 800, with 117 of those being affordable units. “The team has followed the town’s Housing Element and General Plan 2040 over the years,” said Steve Buster, senior vice president for Grosvenor, in a press release. “Throughout this time, we have evaluated a number of options to help the town meet its Department of Housing and Community Development requirements. We are pleased that we were able to find a viable solution while still delivering a strong public open space area that will meet the needs of the community and local residents.
The project’s two-acre central park, which was initially going to be private, will now be open to the public. Developers said they changed it after several residents who attended community meetings about the project said they wanted a public gathering space.

North Korea calls its nukes 'stark reality,' criticizes G-7North Korea’s foreign minister has called the Group of Seven wealthy democracies a “tool for ensuring the U.S. hegemony” as she lambasted the group’s recent call for the North’s denuclearization. The top diplomats from G-7 nations on Tuesday had condemned the North’s recent ballistic missile tests and reiterated their commitment to the goal of North Korea’s denuclearization. North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui said the G-7 was a handful of “egoistic countries” that doesn’t represent the global community. The meeting of the G-7 foreign ministers in Japan was a prelude to the summit of G-7 leaders next month in Hiroshima, Japan. North Korea’s nuclear program is expected to be on the summit agenda.

Montana shelves GOP proposal to alter US Senate primaryA proposed change to next year’s Montana U.S. Senate primary that could have hurt Democratic Sen. Jon Tester’s reelection chances is likely dead. A legislative committee shelved the GOP-backed measure Wednesday. Some Republican lawmakers urged on by a GOP lobbyist wanted to alter the 2024 Senate primary in Montana so that only the top two candidates, no matter their party, would advance to the November election. That would have effectively blocked out third-party candidates, who Republicans blamed for draining away potential GOP votes during past attempts to unseat Tester.
