Prop guns were accidentally discharged on the set of Alec Baldwin film 'Rust' at least twice before the fatal shooting, people familiar with the matter say
In the days before the fatal shooting on the set of the Alec Baldwin movie “Rust,”used in the Western film accidentally discharged at least twice, according to people familiar with the daily operations of the production.
Before that, there were accidental discharges of prop firearms on the Santa Fe, New Mexico, area set at least twice, according to people familiar with the matter. No one was hurt during the accidental discharges, said one of the people. The scene being rehearsed involved a close-up of the prop gun Mr. Baldwin was using, said the people familiar with the matter.
A spokesman for the production company, Rust Movie Productions LLC didn’t respond to a request for comment Sunday. In a statement Friday the company said that the safety of cast and crew is its priority, and that it wasn’t “made aware of any official complaints concerning weapon or prop safety on set.” The company said it would continue to cooperate with the Santa Fe authorities in the investigation.
