Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson suffered an ankle injury that could sideline him for days.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Roman Wilson workout under the watchful eye of head coach Mike Tomlin during the team's NFL OTA's football practice in Pittsburgh, Tuesday, May 21, 2024. “Unfortunately, we had an injury today, man,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “He hurt his ankle on a tackle. So, we’ll have more information regarding the length of his absence and how long he will be out.”
Wilson’s injury came during the team’s seven-shots period when cornerback Anthony Averett tackled him on a jet sweep. It appeared that Wilson’s ankle got rolled up and crunched, forcing him to go to the sideline.Wilson’s absence blows a Steelers wide receiver room without meaningful depth. Not only is Wilson the fastest rising player in the unit, but he was becoming a legitimate contender for the WR2 role.
In his absence, Quez Watkins and Scofty Miller received more work. Calvin Austin III continues to take most of the slot snaps without Wilson around, and if Wilson misses lots of time over the next few weeks, Austin will see most of those reps throughout team periods.
