Amid billionaire spending and major contributions to moderate candidates, progressives rally together.
As they gathered at the edge of the Panhandle for a “unity” rally on Saturday, a crowd of progressive supporters and candidates were confident their message was peeking through the cacophony of ads and mailers funded by well-heeled candidates typically considered “moderate” by San Francisco political definitions.
“What is dividing them is their personal interests, among all these billionaires,” Chan told The Examiner. “What is uniting us is our values and our policies.” “Peskin is up against a wave of gray money, which can feel overwhelming and demoralizing to supporters like me, but at the same time, Peskin’s direct fundraising is exceeding every other campaign in the race,” said Lee Hepner, who previously worked on Peskin’s staff in City Hall and his backing his mayoral campaign. “Progressive support coalesces late in every cycle, and I believe it’s happening in this race. If people do their research and actually get out and vote, Peskin can win this.
