A coalition of progressive organizations is intensifying calls for the impeachment of President Donald Trump and other top administration officials, citing concerns over military actions and alleged constitutional violations. This renewed effort is taking place against the backdrop of internal divisions within the Democratic Party, as various lawmakers propose impeachment proceedings for multiple Trump administration officials.

As the 2026 midterm elections draw near, a coalition of progressive advocacy groups has reignited its push to impeach President Donald Trump and other high-ranking administration officials. The primary focus of this renewed campaign is what these groups characterize as an “illegal and unconstitutional” military action against Venezuela . This accusation serves as the central argument fueling their calls for impeachment.

A joint press release issued on Wednesday by a collective of organizations, including Citizens’ Impeachment, the Removal Coalition, Free Speech for People, Women’s March, and the 50501 Movement, unveiled an escalated campaign designed to exert pressure on Congress to take action. The groups are specifically urging constituents to participate in the upcoming “Free America Walkout” on January 20th. This nationwide event aims to mobilize citizens to visit their congressional district offices and demand support for new articles of impeachment. This effort is occurring merely weeks after 140 members of the House of Representatives voiced their backing for Rep. Al Green’s (D-TX) articles of impeachment against Trump. These earlier articles, as stated in the press release, were “focused on Trump’s threat to execute Members of Congress and his threats and intimidation against federal judges.” The vote held last month marked what the statement described as a “77% increase in support for impeachment in the House since the prior House vote in June of last year.” Even though the December resolution was ultimately tabled, with 23 Democrats aligning with Republicans to block it, the organizers of this movement are proclaiming that its momentum is accelerating. \According to the coalition, “more than one million people across the country have now joined the call for impeachment proceedings against Trump through a petition.” Free Speech for People’s legal team has reportedly detailed “25 grounds for impeachment.” The military action in Venezuela is cited as one of multiple aggressive military engagements that were allegedly undertaken without the proper congressional authorization. The press release also alleges a pattern of unchecked aggression, including “unilateral strikes on Iran conducted without congressional oversight in June 2025, the repeated bombings of boats and shipwrecked survivors in the Caribbean, and threats of military action in Greenland, Cuba, Columbia, and the entire western hemisphere immediately after the strike on Venezuela.” In addition to these accusations, Citizens’ Impeachment is also actively pursuing three separate impeachment resolutions. Two of these resolutions are aimed at Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, accusing them of “tyranny” and “treason.” The third resolution targets Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi, alleging obstruction of justice and failure to release the Epstein Files. These resolutions accuse Trump and his administration officials of breaching constitutional war powers, and of employing federal agencies like the National Guard and ICE as domestic paramilitary forces. The leaders of this impeachment campaign have offered a variety of statements, all stressing the urgency and the high stakes involved in their efforts. Hunter Dunn, a spokesperson for 50501, stated, “This is not hyperbole: Trump represents the single greatest threat to human civilization and the future of life on this planet that the United States has ever produced. It is long past time for Republicans, Democrats, and people of conscience everywhere to reject his treasonous behavior and honestly confront the historical parallels to the rise of fascism in 1930s Germany. We are standing on the edge of World War III, and pretending otherwise is complicity. We must impeach Trump while we still can.” Rachel O’Leary Carmona, the Executive Director of Women’s March, underscored that “impeachment exists for moments like this” and warned that “the cost of silence is simply too high.” Jessica Denson, founder of the Removal Coalition, emphasized that “the Constitution empowers Congress to remove a tyrant from office,” while Alexandra Flores-Quilty of Free Speech for People referred to impeachment as “the one remedy in the Constitution for a lawless, tyrannical President.”\The ongoing impeachment drive is unfolding amidst growing internal divisions within the Democratic Party. As has been reported in the news previously, calls for impeachment have struggled to secure majority support, even among Democrats. Prominent party leaders, including Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, and Pete Aguilar, all voted “present” during the previous vote on impeachment. A similar measure in June failed decisively, with 128 Democrats joining Republicans in opposition. Despite the lack of consensus, a number of Democrats have since put forward impeachment resolutions targeting other Trump administration officials. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), who is currently running for Senate, filed articles of impeachment against HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in December, accusing him of “turning his back on science.” Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) has announced his intention to impeach Defense Secretary Hegseth over alleged war crimes related to a military strike in the Caribbean. Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) formally requested an investigation into DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, citing “unlawful conduct” and “misuse of federal funds” as potentially impeachable offenses. These ongoing actions show the continued efforts of progressive organizations and some Democrats to challenge the actions of the Trump administration, even though the efforts have so far failed to gain widespread support within the Democratic Party. The long-term impact on the political landscape will be determined by whether the organizations can influence the public narrative or if the Democratic Party's internal divisions will become more pronounced
